Science can be pretty if it wants to

This one is my favorite
Quantum Dots!
I may have taken this one myself.

These are all from my image folder that I've been collecting over the last couple of years, so I don't have the proper citation.  But most of them can be found by browsing this website: http://www.visualsunlimited.com/gallery-list

Lighting Ideas

I drove by a lamp store the other day and thought, "wow, they still have specialty stores?!", especially this one which was full of boring ol' traditional lamps with ceramic bottoms and cloth shades.  Those can really dull down an otherwise lively room.  I've been collecting inspiration pictures from the 'net, really just from google image searching lamps, or paper mache lamps..etc.  Here is what I saved to my computer, hope they inspire you as much as they do me!
Color!  Pretty!

Okay, not exactly lighting, but still cool!

I replaced one of my "comes with the house booby lights" with a pickle jar after looking at these.  Win!

I covered some Christmas light strands with tissue paper origami balls and they look rad.  Too lazy to post a pick but these lanterns have the same effect.

These guys covered their light with a colander and look at the cool effect it has on the wall!  Also, those cassette tape lights are AMAZING.  Someday when I have the time I am going to rig up an LED tape cassette rimmed mirror.  It will be so cool.

Weatherize THIS

Check out my cool futuristic weather proofing in my kitchen!  Its real purpose is to obscure the window without a curtain that would just get gross and oily from kitchen splatters and such.  I can't stand doing the dishes at night when it looks pitch black from where I stand looking out but if some creepy psycho were to be standing two feet in front of me looking in - rubbing one out next to my worm bin - I wouldn't even know.
Bubble wrap and double sided tape

Scrap Fabric Picture Frames

In most 2nd hand stores there are entire isles devoted to picture frames and hideous art, but if you're like me you don't even see the art that is in the frame.  Instead you see a vast assortment of incredibly cheap frames just begging for a make-over.  I also have a ton of really pretty fabric scraps and after flipping through an Anthropologie catalog I got this cool idea that really makes the frames look less shabby and your walls oh so colorful!
Artwork from various etsy sellers - really the best place to buy art

Just takes a glue gun and some old clothes and viola!

These guys came from an illustration manual which I then pasted on some wood blocks.

...more wood blocks...

This is a photo from etsy (look under lomo-something I forget) - you can modge-podge over the photo w/o harming it

DIY Sweatshirt / T-shirt

Have a dumpy t-shirt AND a dumpy sweatshirt?  I did!  Look what happened:

Oh the possibilities-when two shirts meet scissors magic happens.
I just cut out the front of the shirt, laid it on the sweatshirt to get the shape right, trimmed down its arms and waist, and then sewed it on.

...and the pocket too.

Can't see it very well but this is a skirt I made out of an old plaid shirt I ganked from this really mean bitter girl I used to work with who would paint in her fathers awesome vintage plaid shirts.  Really, how could she? It is so soft, and looks kinda silly I'm sure but I don't care.

And Then She Painted It All White

I started painting on my bedroom walls when I was eleven because they were dirty and ugly and smelled like an ashtray.  Anyone who has brushed a single stroke of that good ol' thick gooey latex paint knows how it can turn the most plain looking piece of shit crawlspace into a bright shiny dazzling palace in no time and at half the price! Right?  So, that's what I did and here is how I left it when I moved out of there:

Not sure of the original artist - but from a comic or movie still.

Those circles were so awesome
